Summer Updates

Hope summer break is going well for all! Congrats to the grads and see ya in the fall for continuing students.

Here are some updates from Habitat!

2013 Summer Collegiate Challenge: Medford, Oregon:
UCSD Habitat for Humanity sent 11 students on another successful Collegiate Challenge trip to help out the Rogue Valley Habitat located in Medford, Oregon. The group helped with painting the outside of the house, digging trenches for the irrigation system, and building a gate. They also assisted at the Rogue Valley ReStore where they recycled old windows. During downtime and the free day, the group went on hikes and took a visit to Crater Lake National Park! Other activities included going out to local restaurants, hanging out at the local YMCA playing pick-up basketball and going bowling. (pictures)

2013 Summer CC group!

PETCO Park Fundraisers:
If you can't wait to get together with Habitat until fall quarter, come and help out with fundraising by volunteering to work at a Padre's Major League Baseball game! Fundraising is a crucial part of our club, and Habitat as a whole. Along with donating our time and physical strength while going on build days, we also donate financially to an international beneficiary as well as to the local affiliates when traveling on Collegiate Challenges. Finances are important and necessary to function because as a campus chapter we not only support ourselves, but help support our parent chapter, San Diego Habitat.
If you are interested in helping out at the next Padre's game, please e-mail us at: ucsdhabitat@gmail.com

Don't forget to check out our events calendar and find us on Facebook by searching "UCSD Habitat for Humanity."

Friday May 10th: Summer Collegiate Challenge applications are due!!! Please turn them in to our mailbox behind the OneStop Desk on the 3rd floor of PC East. CC will take place in Medford, Oregon this summer. We will spend one week (June 23-29) helping to build a home for an underprivileged family.

Saturday May 11th: IRC Farm Day! We will be assisting the International Rescue Committee (IRC) with some farming-related activities in Pauma Valley. The IRC acquired the farm to train refugees how to grow their own produce in order for them to make a living by becoming farmers. Work will include weeding the mint crop and making basic repairs to their green house. Please bring water, sun screen, and wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Also, bring money or pack something to eat, as lunch will not be provided.
As space is limited, we take volunteers on a first come, first serve basis. If you would like to sign up, please fill out this form.
